Lavender Tour reconnaissance hike

Yesterday's reconnaissance hike around Saint Michel l'Observatoire and around Valensole with Aurélie, our trusty intern.

For our new self-guided lavender walking tour.

Now all I have to do is finish writing the Roadbook!

What do we do on our day off here at Walk Inn?
We hike!
Yesterday Sonja and I (and our respective families) went on a hike atop the Alpilles mountain range, with the hills in full bloom.
Here are some pics:

Les Jas du Ventoux.

A beautiful hike on the southern face of Mont Ventoux, with cherry trees in full bloom.

Climbing from the  village of Bedoin to midway up the mountain...

... to centuries-old shepherd's huts lost in the hills. Well, not so lost. We found them.

Descending via the Curnier canyon.

Good thing I didn't have too much to eat at lunch. It's a tight squeeze.

Reconnaissance outside the village of Aurel

Contrary to what the sign may suggest, I survived the climb.

My new ride...

my new Bike!!!!

I'm currently updating notes for the new and improved self-guided cycling holiday:
Freewheeling through the Luberon

And I've been using one of our Trek FX hybrid bikes: smooth, fast, efficient, comfortable...

Today's ride:
+ 10 perched villages
+ 75km (days 3 and 5 of above program)
+ 1050m in total elevation
= a fantastic day
I still can't believe I get paid to do this...

A Glorious November day to cycle through the Provençal countryside, taking notes for an upcoming tour in 2016:
